Workshop: Using Free Software – the Basics

This is an introductory workshop for any age, covering GUI, and using “Cloud” vs local facilities, eg Wordprocessing, Spreadsheets, Web-browsing.

The objective is to introduce you to open source and Linux software, as a free alternative to proprietary software and Windows/Mac. I will show you how to log in and do common work on a computer, eg emailing, using a word-processor, spreadsheet, simple and graphics programs, with tips on how to use any system efficiently, eg keyboard shortcuts, getting help, capturing and describing any problem you are having, so you can most easily get any answer to any computing problem.
