Following the signing of a 6 month lease for the premises at Shop 4, 19-21 Nind St Southport on 19th October 2012, we packed and moved from our old space into the new space over the following week. This involved a day of repainting, carpet cleaning, and sorting and packing some of the equipment and tech “stuff” to move it tot he new premises. Quite a bit of stuff has been discarded, returned to donors/owners, and some thrown out or collected by the local Lifeline.
By Wednesday 24th, the co-working area was sufficiently set up to commence operations. Full high-speed internet access is expected to come online in the next week, but in the meantime we are using wireless broadband.
The new Space features several improvements over the old premises:
- Higher visibility: a shopfront and more visible location.
- Better layout for separate physical areas for co-working, semi-private meetings, and a separate hackspace
- Better access for members directly from Nind Street and also via a rear entrance into the hackspace area from our carpark in Figtree Lane.
Our open events are still running on Wednesdays (Jelly from 9 to 5pm) in the co-working area, and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoon open events in the HackSpace area. Anyone and everyone is welcome to drop in at these times to see the new space. Members will have better 24/7 access than we could provide at the old space, where the gate into the old compound proved problematic.
